Tough first week?

Written by Alrenz on September 14, 2008 – 9:59 pm

Well, not really. My first week in the second term was… So-so. But I like it.

Monday was COMGRAP and COLREND day. In COMGRAP, our professor looked like a student. (He graduated last 2001, hence the young look.) He gave out some silly rules that no one will eat if he’s not eating as well. (However, eating and drinking is not allowed inside the computer laboratory) Our first exercise for him was a mask that represents who we are, and it has to be easy to execute in Photoshop. COLREND class was also ok, we did a creativity exercise. One was to choose colors for a picture (A typical picture drawn by elementary school students) and the other to draw a stool and rendering.

Tuesday to Thursday were my rest days. Yes, 3 days without classes. As usual, I did what I always do when I do not have classes. (Like surfing the net, watching television and eating)  However, it felt like I was on LOA because it’s quite boring. But I still love it! Woot.

Friday was DESPRIN and FREHAND day. I heard that my professor in DESPRIN gives 2.5 as his highest grade. He was like, “Don’t treat me as your professor. TREAT ME AS YOUR CLIENT” When he uttered those words, I felt the pressure because I remembered my NATSCA1 subject last school year. And he asks for too many and too expensive materials. Well, let’s see. On FREHAND, we were asked to draw a Volkswagen Beetle. (The old one, thank you very much.) But since we have no picture of the Beetle, we have to draw it the way we imagined it. My drawing came out fine, but that good. We got dismissed early. :)

Saturday was HARTDS2 and NSTPCWT class. HARTDS2 was quite boring, I kept on yawning. We already started discussing on Art in general. After that class, I had my lunch break. But I spent less because I’m saving money again. (This time, for a mobile phone.) We then had our NSTPCWT class after. Our professor almost became mad at us because we were noisy. But when the grading thingy was revealed to us, we were objecting to the criteria but we wanted the old one again. LMAO. Like FREHAND, we got dismissed early.

Anna had a little celebration with her classmates and friends (Seth, Jacob, Alyssa, Goldie, Reji, Drew, Ian, Char, Jeanne, Princess and yours truly) at Yellow Cab Taft. It was fun, and the food is delish. Love. Thanks for the invite, host! And belated happy birthday! Much love. :)

Um, looks like I didn’t have a tough first week. It went alright.

But I’m still afraid. Now, it’s ON!

WordCamp Philippines 2008

Written by Alrenz on September 7, 2008 – 5:47 pm

Guess who had a new layout! The new layout came from the giveaway CD of WordCamp. Thanks Blog Oh Blog! EDIT: I changed my layout! FALL OUT BOY is LOVE. Wahahaha. :))

My camper’s badge.

On the second to the last day of my term break was WordCamp Philippines 2008, held on the Augusto-Rosario Gonzalez Theatre, College of Saint Benilde. (My school)

Looking back on my post about the said event, I wanted to attend this event to hone my skills in developing themes, and of course, to meet Matt Mullenweg, Mr. WordPress himself. I’m proud to say that I accomplished doing these things at WordCamp.

Happy Campers! With Clarizze and Anna. That’s CRAZY me on the right.

I was with my schoolmates and other friends. We had a good time there. Almost all of us attended our chosen breakaway sessions. :)

Here’s a funny story:

While MiGs was welcoming us to the WordCamp event, he gave me a special mention because I was freezing cold. Yes, the venue was cold. :(

With Mr. WordPress himself.

Meeting Matt Mullenweg was… magical. Nah, I’m just kidding. I wasn’t able to talk to him because I was starstrucked. It’s like meeting a celebrity. Here’s what happened.

After falling in line, I patted his shoulder and then used the camera. He was saying, “thank you” and shook my hand. I was not saying anything because I was starstrucked! (Sorry for the reiteration) So I nodded my head. Ooh, I did say something, but my voice was soft.

Thank you to the organizers, sponsors, campers and Matt Mullenweg for gracing the event. Wow! What a great way to somehow end my term break. Tomorrow we’ll be having classes already.

I’ll be looking forward to WordPress 2.7, and to the next WordCamp in our country. :)

EDIT:

LINK LOVE:

Anna, Clarizze, The [Deranged] Writer, Kevin, Cars, Cerisse, Arianne, Ada, xsabrina.chic, Carlo, Dre, Ria, and of course, Matt Mullenweg.
